Notice regarding Division Structure for next fall (2024-2025 season)
The league board will be taking the semester to evaluate changing the process by which teams are assigned to divisions next fall.
The reasons for this evaluation are
focus on arranging teams such that most matches on court are competitive (either team has reasonable expectation to win)
eager to simplify roster and lineup admin for captains/division managers;
avoid atypical end of semester lineups that disrupt the competitiveness across the league (surprisingly weak lineups for teams that are “safe” or surprisingly strong lineups for teams that are “at risk” or “seeking promotion”);
provide mechanisms to encourage club/player participation and discourage defaults
In short, promotions and relegations will NOT be guaranteed based on division standings at the end of the 2023-2024 season. The board will use division standings as one of many factors to determine division structure next fall. Feedback is welcome.
Additionally, the board welcomes feedback on topics such as season duration, spring session, playoffs, and frozen-player/order of strength rules.
To manage expectations, much feedback is expected. Phrase it constructively, keeping in mind the common goal is to share the fun of competitive platform tennis with players across the region while maintaining the healthy competition and postive league experience the FCPTL is known for.
We do not anticipate responding to feedback immediately, instead it will be collected and considered holistically by the board as we determine how to provide an improved set of league guidelines.
