FCPTL 25th Anniversary - A note from Paul Fowler
The 2024-25 Season celebrates the 25th anniversary of the founding of the FCPTL and it's end of year tournament originated for the 1999-2000 Season. It was the collaboration of Jim Reilly, Middlesex, who ran the A & Saturday League (originally known at the Tri-Town League- New Canaan, Darien and Rowayton) and Charlie Scott, NCFC who ran the B & Sunday League. Both ran their leagues with the help of others for over a decade.

The new league maintained its 4 Divisions. It converted the 8 line format (2 back to back sessions) to today's 4 lines to create better competition. Since email was not prevalent, standings were mailed out twice a year. Imagine life without emails and cellphones.

John Arrix, Woodway, was the 4th member of the Board. He initiated the Captains Breakfast. He was also responsible for designing the end of the year tournament's conversion from a 2 day 32 or 64 draw single elimination to a one day tournament. This was an instant success, with competitive matches completed in a day,  a timeframe deemed "within the "pass" most could get from their wives. It also became the largest one day tournament in the country and as pronounced by an early participant "The Best Day of Paddle All Year." All are true today.

I became the President of the League for the 1999-2000 Season and stepped down 10 years later at the end of the 2009-10 Season. I was honored by Scott Smith, President and the Board that succeeded me to have the tournament in my name. It has become known as the PFI or Paul Fowler Invitational...not Memorial as some have suggested.

So this is my official invitation to you and all your teammates to enjoy "The Best Day of Paddle All Year"  and to play in the PFI Saturday, March 22. I look forward to seeing you all then and buying you a beer...well actually you are buying the beers.

Cheers and with many thanks to the wonderful work by members of the current Board, Have a Great Season
